Vanagon Ventures invests in LoopID, an innovation leader in AI-powered solutions for the circular economy

We are happy to announce our investment in LoopID.
LoopID develops digital solutions for the emerging circular economy, enabling brands to develop profitable circular business models, improve costs and customer engagement throughout the product lifecycle, and comply with new sustainability regulations.
At the heart of LoopID is their AI-powered software as a service infrastructure to create and manage semantic digital twins of physical products which comply with the upcoming EU Digital Product Passport regulation. Their solutions include secure take-back systems, innovative recommerce platforms, and end-to-end traceability tools, among others. Furthermore, innovative features allow customers, for instance, to chat with products such as their running shoes or washing machine to inquire about product properties, repair, take-back, or resale.

LoopID is currently focusing on the priority sectors for circular transformation: Electronics/ICT, Textiles/Fashion, and Real Estate, where the company is cooperating with strong partners such as Infineon to develop industry-specific plug-and-play solutions.
The current "linear" system of extracting resources to make products and, after use, dumping them into our lands, oceans, or - by burning - into our atmosphere, has led to massive levels of pollution, emissions, and loss of nature and biodiversity. Solutions such as LoopID help keep resources in the cycle and enable companies to rethink products and their use in sustainable ways.
“With their deep domain and technology expertise, the LoopID team managed to not only leverage frontier technologies such as AI and blockchain to allow companies to intelligently comply with upcoming digital product passport regulation: The solution also allows for a completely new level of engagement between products and customers.”
The founding team has deep expertise and experience in the areas of digital technology and the circular economy. As a former digital transformation and AI expert at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Christian Adler has supported numerous companies in transforming their products and business models into the digital age. He studied Computer Science at LMU Munich and UC Berkeley and recently earned a degree in Circular Economy at Leuphana University. Alexis Gamboa gained his expertise in the development of advanced digital twins during his time at EY and while studying computer science at the Technical University of Munich and in his home country Costa Rica. The two met at the renowned startup forge CDTM (Center for Digital Technology and Management) in Munich where they also both studied. The team participated in the prestigious startup accelerators at UnternehmerTUM and UC Berkeley and has just joined the Silicon Valley-based B2B accelerator Alchemist, which has also invested in the company.
In addition to their recent investment round, LoopID receives significant funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) as part of the Innovation Program for Business Models and Forward-Looking Solutions (IGP). Furthermore, Vanagon limited partner, circularity veteran, and founder of i-Point systems, Jörg Walden, also co-invests in the company.
“With their strong belief and trust in our team and capabilities, Vanagon enables us to focus on the development and deployment of our solution together with our partners at high speed and provides us with access to top-notch investors and advisors, such as Jörg Walden. Our goal for the coming months is to further demonstrate and scale our solution in key markets to accelerate the circular transformation of our economy."
